Students must meet the admission requirements of the Graduate School. The criteria for admission to the Graduate School include an earned baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or from an institution with substantially equivalent requirements for a baccalaureate degree and with an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale on all courses undertaken prior to receiving the baccalaureate degree. Admission to the Graduate School as a non-degree seeking student allows the student to enroll in graduate courses leading to licensure in Special Education on the Additional Licensure Plan (ALP).
Courses for the ALP can be taken as on-campus or online classes. Both forms of delivery are approved to meet the ALP course requirements. Courses taken as a non-degree seeking student may not be used to meet the requirements for a M.Ed. in Special Education without petitions and approval. Only 6 semester credit hours can be transferred toward the degree. Therefore, acceptance in a program area should be accomplished before the completion of the first graduate course if the course is to be accepted as part of the program of study for the degree program.
The Special Education program does not require students to take the Graduate Record Examination, the Miller Analogies Test, or the National Teachers Examination as part of the admission process unless the Graduate School requests the test score for admission.
